Hyundai unveils mid-engined Veloster concept in Korea

Hyundai has unveiled a radical mid-engined Veloster concept at the Busan International Auto Show in Korea.

Called the Veloster Midship, the two-seater concept is totally drivable and is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine generating a healthy 295 horsepower. The concept also has a lightweight aluminum suspension, a high-rigidity chassis and what Hyundai calls a “mini-supercar layout.”

The mid-engine layout will help optimize weight balance and handling. There was no word in the press release on whether the concept is front- or rear-wheel drive (or maybe even AWD?).

Hyundai says the concept was built “to explore possibilities for the Veloster chassis and is currently not related to any future production model.”
