Quick news: Mazda builts 1m Skyactiv models; Volvo's blow-up child seat

The one-millionth SkyActiv Mazda has been built; Volvo develops inflatable child seat; New Smart Fortwo trim launched

Mazda has produced a million SkyActiv models, just two years and four months after the firm launched the technology with the Mazda CX-5. Sales of that model, along with the 3 and 6 passed 1,040,000 in March. Mazda plans to introduce a further five SkyActiv models by 2016.

Volvo has developed a lightweight and inflatable rear-facing child seat concept. It can inflate in 40 seconds and weighs 5kg, around half that of conventional seats. Bluetooth connectivity enables it to be inflated remotely. The seat is constructed from fabric originally designed by the military to develop inflatable aeroplanes.
