Toyota recalls 6.7 million vehicles worldwide

Following GM’s nightmares and Ford’s latest confession, the recall campaign continues with Toyota targeting 27 models and 6.7 million vehicles worldwide. This also affects the Pontiac Vibe and Subaru Trezia.

Actually, the Japanese automaker is attempting to address five separate issues:

Defective starter which could prevent the engine from shutting off;
Faulty airbag cables that may not work properly;
Loose steering mounts;
Windshield wiper motor failure;
Defective seat rails.

Toyota first identified one of the five problems back in 2007, while the most recent surfaced last year. No accident has been reported yet, although two cases of fires are linked to the defective engine starter. Fortunately, no one has been injured.

Approximately 2.3 million vehicles are affected in North America. They include Corolla, Camry, RAV4, Yaris, Highlander, Tacoma, and Scion xD vehicles built from 2004 to August 2013.
