Toyota FT-1 concept vists Jay Leno, we swoon

Episodes of Jay Leno’s Garage typically feature rare supercars, beautiful classics and pristine restorations, so when we saw the latest guest was Toyota’s FT-1 Concept that shocked everyone when it was revealed this year, we got really excited.

If you were alive during the 1990s, you know the Supra is a big deal. You also know that this makes the FT-1 an even bigger deal because it is the spiritual successor to the Supra and it shows us that Toyota still has a fun side.

The dramatic FT-1 is a shocking departure for the typically conservative Japanese automaker. The concept hearkens back to the days when Toyota made performance-oriented cars that got people very excited — even people like Jay Leno, who likes the FT-1 more than the extreme Lexus LFA supercar.

Leno says the designed-in-America FT-1 has a very Italian look that is balanced with its Japanese heritage. One of his favourite parts of the car (mine too) are the side mirrors, which are beautiful and excessive, but they really speak to the car’s lofty aspirations.

Watch Leno’s interview with the car’s designers below. It will only make you want to write strongly worded letters to Toyota to please make this car right now:
