2014 Ram EcoDiesel sees 8,000 orders in three days

Proving pickup customers appreciate both stellar fuel economy and mounds of torque, Chrysler says it received 8,000 orders in the U.S. for the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel.

According to Chrysler, of all Ram 1500 pickups ordered between Feb. 7 and 10, just over 50 per cent packed the fuel-sipping powertrain, filling up the automaker’s initial dealer allocation. In addition, the number of customers who have already put down some sort of payment on the truck — in some cases, without even test driving it — is double the average Chrysler usually sees.

Currently, the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is the only half-ton pickup on the market powered by a diesel engine. Its 3.0-litre V6 pumps out 240 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque. Although it’s down on horsepower compared to the 3.6- and 5.7-litre Ram 1500 models, it has the most torque.

Naturally, the EcoDiesel punches in with the best highway fuel economy in the Ram 1500 family, let alone the half-ton pickup segment. According to recently released figures from EnerGuide, the Ram EcoDiesel is rated at 10.6L/100 km in the city and 7.1 on the highway.
