Tokyo motor show 2013: Honda Odyssey

Eight-seat Japanese market MPV to make its show debut in Tokyo

The new Honda Odyssey minivan has been uncovered at the 2013 Tokyo motor show.

Shown in Japanese domestic market guise, the new eight-seat Odyssey has ditched its predecessor’s ‘car-like’ proportions and low-slung seats in favour of a high-roof shape, a pair of captain seats in the second row and electrically operated sliding doors.

The Japanese-spec Honda Odyssey is powered by a 2.4-litre i-VTEC four-cylinder unit, which develops 173bhp at 6200rpm and is mated to a CVT transmission with seven ‘virtual’ ratios and optional paddle shifters.

Honda says the Odyssey’s low floor height and high ceiling accentuates the interior space, with the low floor endowing the minivan with a step height of 11.8 inches at the rear sliding door for easy entry.

Other highlights include rear air conditioning, a seven-inch audio display system with six speakers, six airbags and vehicle stability assist.

In more luxurious ‘Absolute’ trim, the Odyssey boasts three-zone automated climate control, automatic LED highlights with active cornering lights and a multi-view camera system with rearview camera and parking assist.

Honda is yet to confirm whether the Odyssey will be launched in Europe.
