SUV: 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Diesel power and new eight-speed transmission make for an even more refined ride; still boasts go-anywhere capabilities

The sharp-looking Grand Cherokee gains a few added drivetrain enhancements this year, including a new eight-speed transmission that improves fuel economy across the range. With more gears in its toolbox, Jeep’s refined SUV also gains a little extra off-road prowess, with lower ratios for crawling up steep slopes. Both off-road enthusiasts and highway warriors will appreciate the addition of diesel-power to the lineup, in the form of a 3.0L turbodiesel with 240 hp and a stump-pulling 420 lb-ft of torque. Inside, the Grand Cherokee impresses with a staggering array of tech including a new 8.4-inch touchscreen display for the Uconnect system. Channelling its inner muscle car, the SRT model of the Grand Cherokee boasts mind-bending acceleration, yet is still perfectly capable of returning reasonably fuel economy on the highway.
