NHTSA to investigate 61,000 Volkswagen Tiguan SUVs

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation today into some 61,000 Tiguan SUVs.

The NHTSA has received 26 complaints from owners of 2009 to 2011 Volkswagen Tiguans regarding a malfunction with the car’s exterior lighting system, which could result in either a partial or complete loss of exterior lighting.

So far, most complaints circle back to an overheated and melted fuse as the cause of the problem. The NHTSA says the issue gradually worsens in severity over time. Volkswagen has yet to issue a recall, and likely won’t do so until the NHTSA completes its investigation.
