SUV: 2014 BMW X5

All-new crossover boasts more comfort, better ride and improved efficiency; stylish new looks and slight weight reduction

Totally redesigned for 2014, the new BMW X5 is a careful evolution of a concept that first took shape way back in 1999. Along the way, BMW’s flagship Sport Activity Vehicle (so-called because of a focus on driving dynamics rather than pure utility) has become smoothed and honed. This new car sports attractive new styling that shares that iconic twin-kidney grille with the rest of the range. The interior is also improved, both in the quality of materials and the design, and the ride has been tuned for greater comfort. With a slight reduction in weight, the added power for the top-of-the-range V8 model makes short work of the big Bimmer’s heft, and while steering effort has been reduced in normal modes, selecting “Sport” turns the X5 into a proper BMW experience.
