SUV: 2014 BMW X6

Sleek crossover continues to fly in the face of convention with massive road-presence, excellent handling, and huge available power

In many ways, the BMW X6 is not designed to make sense. It’s got pseudo-sleek styling, but its jacked up in the air. It’s got good ground clearance, but it’s built to handle like a sportscar. Despite being a mix of conventions not normally seen, the X6 continues to succeed at its mission of getting noticed and driving like a sport-sedan. The standard turbocharged inline six and V8 engines do a great job of providing enough power to get the chassis up and moving, and then BMW’s sweet handling tuning lets the big X6 tackle even the most winding roads. King of the hill is the X6 M, a 555-hp behemoth that’s outstandingly fast. With no release date yet this year for the slightly more-sensible X5 M, the X6 M alone will carry the blitzkrieg crossover flag for BMW.
