When Porsche launched its first 911 Turbo in 1974, it was offered only as a coupe—open-top motoring was not for serious sports-car drivers. The market, of course, thought differently. Soon enough, Turbo Targa conversions appeared, most notably by coachbuilder Buchmann. In 1987, the folks in Zuffenhausen, Germany, capitulated, and the factory began to offer not only the Turbo Targa, but also the Turbo Cabriolet, and a beautiful variation of a legend was born.
