Infiniti confusingly re-names Q50 for 2015

The Infiniti G37 sedan was a good car and the name made sense. “G” for “G” series and 37 to denote the 3.7-litre engine. The G37 sedan’s successor was renamed as the Q50 for the 2014 model year. According to The Car Connection, the Q50 will become the Q40 for 2015. The G37 coupe is also being renamed as the Q60.

The Q40 will still be powered by a 3.7-litre V6 and the car will be available with rear or all-wheel-drive. If you need your car to be painted a bright and colourful hue, the Q40 will likely disappoint. The car is only available in four colours, graphite shadow (grey), liquid platinum (silver), black obsidian and moonlight white.

It seems like Infiniti is heading down the path BMW took with nonsensical names. Does this new naming structure make sense to anyone?
