2015 Ford Mustang allegedly not as light as promised

An aftermarket Mustang tuner that got an advance look at the 2015 Ford Mustang is claiming that the pony car is 200 to 300 pounds heavier than promised, AutoWeek reports.

Steeda Autosports, which makes aftermarket Mustang parts and accessories, wrote on its blog that “Our work is cut out for us because unbeknown to most Mustang aficionados (and not ‘officially’ confirmed by Ford for obvious reasons), the 2015 Mustang ended up gaining 200-300 pounds in this remake.”

The claim has not yet been commented on by Ford officials, but when details for the 2015 Mustang were unveiled, Ford said the new Mustang would be the lightest one yet. Many speculated the new Mustang would weigh 200 pounds less than the previous-generation model, which clocked in at 3,501 lbs.

The 2015 Ford Mustang will go on sale in late 2014.
