Italdesign previews a new Geneva-bound concept; Lexus RC F GT3 to race in 2015; BMW i3 voted UK COTY; Tesla to open battery factory in 2017

Italdesign Giugiaro has previewed a new concept car, which will be launched in Geneva next week. The firm’s previous Parcour 4×4 supercar concept was introduced last year.

Lexus will show a race-ready version of its RC F coupé at the Geneva motor show. The RC F GT3 forms part of Lexus’s plans to enter GT3 series racing in 2015, and features new bodywork and a stripped-out interior.

The BMW i3 has been named the UK Car of the Year. The electric hatchback faced competition from the Porsche Cayman, Range Rover Sport, BMW 5-series and Citroën C4 Grand Picasso in the final round of judging, with winners picked over 11 categories.

Porsche has confirmed its 919 hybrid LMP1 racer will compete in the World Endurance Championship this year. The 919 is powered by a radical new V4 engine. Its appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June will mark the first time such an engine has been used at the event.

Tesla’s proposed US battery factory plans to start production in 2017, with the long-term aim of providing 500,000 vehicles with batteries by the end of the decade. The project will also give Tesla a large lithium-ion battery stock to increase its product portfolio.
