2014 Mini leaked ahead of official reveal

Official Mini pictures leaked online ahead of the third generation hatchback’s reveal today

These pictures give the best look yet of the new Mini hatcback. The pictures, which are claimed to be official shots, leaked online hours before the car’s planned unveil later today.

The car has already been seen virtually undisguised in a series of spy shots, as both standard and hotter Cooper versions have been caught testing in Europe and North America.

A range of turbocharged direct-injection three and four-cylinder petrol engines will be offered at launch, including a 1.5-litre three-cylinder unit developing 134bhp and 162lb ft of torque. A 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit, meanwhile, develops 189bhp and delivers 206lb ft of torque. Further variants are planned for release further down the line.

The only diesel engine confirmed so far is a 1.5-litre common-rail direct-injection unit with 114bhp and 199lb ft. Efficiency is said to have been improved by as much as seven per cent over the older 1.6-litre unit it replaces.

Both petrol and diesel engine options are offered with new manual and automatic gearboxes, with stop/start functionality.

The all-new Mini is based on BMW’s new front and all-wheel drive UKL1 platform. Although there’s been a clear increase in size over the outgoing model, the company says overall weight has been reduced.
